Chinese students visit Tulane, NOLA as part of partnership

A first-time visit to the United States is all the more memorable when the destination is New Orleans.

That's what 25 Chinese students from Xiangtan University in Hunan Province are learning as they visit Tulane Law School and its dynamic city over the next two weeks.

The visit is part of a faculty and student exchange and the result of a collaboration between Xiangtan and Tulane that established the Tulane-Yongxiong Center for International Credit Law last fall.  In addition to student and faculty exchanges, the significant academic partnership includes faculty teaching short courses at the two partner institutions, the funding of faculty research collaboration and 25 full-tuition scholarships annually for Xiangtan students to pursue LLM degrees at Tulane. The first group of Xiangtan students is expected to begin their studies at Tulane in 2020.

During their visit, the Xiangtan students are exploring Tulane's campus, speaking to students and faculty, taking informal classes and lectures, visiting local courts, and touring iconic New Orleans locations like the New Orleans Museum of Art and the French Quarter.

"I've enjoyed the people (of Tulane and New Orleans)," said Ming Ren Tian, an attorney in China who is visiting the U.S. for the first time.  "They are hospitable and vibrant."
